“Inspired by my mother, I’ve always had a love of color, fabric, textures and pattern and enjoy adding a twist to present them in unexpected ways! I look forward to guiding you through the design process as we create that warm and comfortable space you’ve been looking for!” - Caryl

We asked all of our designers to tell us more about themselves:

How did you get your start in Interior Design?

I have to say, watching my mother making design decisions in our home is what sparked my interest in Interior Design.  I remember being able to decorate my own room as a 4-H project, selecting wallpaper, paint, bedding and draperies.  I even made coordinating pillows for my bed.

Though my degree is in Textiles and Clothing-Apparel Merchandising, I had the chance to take many design classes while at Iowa State.  I have always loved coordinating colors, patterns and textures, whether it be in fashion or home décor.

What is your goal when you work with a client?

I want to immerse myself in learning as much as I can about my client, using that knowledge to build a relationship and an understanding of who they are and how I can meet their needs and desires.  In turn, I can better create a space that is functional yet comfortable and uniquely theirs.

What is a current design trend that you love?

Currently, I am loving wallpaper! It is a great way to add color, pattern, and personality to a space.  I do lean toward timeless classic lines, mixed with fun details, and layered with multiple colors, patterns and textures.

If you had to pick a favorite room in your home which would it be and why?

I would have to say my favorite room in my home is my kitchen.  We live in a 1904 farmhouse and the kitchen was in desperate need of remodeling.  I wanted to retain the look of our period home but improve its efficiency.   We completed it over 10 years ago but its classic styling is still is relevant.

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?

I love spending time with my family….. Sundays are usually family day and might include “Sunday Funday” with my husband, ending with “Sunday night pizza night” with family. It might also include trying out a new food or drink.  I also enjoy getting together with friends traveling to new places, possibly looking for antiques or vintage finds.  Gardening is another pastime that I enjoy as it is a great way to get in touch with nature.  My husband and I take an annual trip to a sunny destination each year and I look forward to more of these opportunities.
