Joan’s before-and-after of winter and spring!

Joan’s before-and-after of winter and spring!

Some days make it hard to believe, but spring really is coming! The last of the snow is melting, the early spring flowers like crocus are starting to appear, and here at Knilans’, we’re thinking about the best way to bring all the beauty of spring into our homes!

Our design team has worked together to bring you some spring decor ideas for 2020, including tips on colors, materials, and holiday decorations that can take your home from winter drab to springtime fab in just a few easy steps!

Colors

Color is one of the easiest ways to introduce a springtime feel in any room! There’s no need to re-design for each season - instead, make small changes in bright and pastel colors. Nicole loves to focus on accents in spring shades like yellow, white, pink, and lighter shades of green. After the heavy dark greens, reds, and golds of traditional holiday decorating, these shades add lightness and life to any space!

Consider swapping some of your basic accessories and art pieces with spring-hued options. These small changes help pull a room together, and if you know which pieces you’ll often change during the year, you now have a head-start on seasonal decorating options beyond spring. That said, whites, yellows, pinks, and greens transition well into summer, so they’ll look great for months to come!

Materials

Spring is the season of growth, and no spring decoration is complete without some plant life! Florals for spring may not be revolutionary, but they’re classics for a reason. Try matching tulips to your accent colors, or hiding sprigs of flowers in unexpected places! Or, go for greenery, like Lori’s wreath and accents, for something a little more subtle.

Many of the textiles in your home - throw pillows and blankets, tablecloths and runners - are easy to swap in and out seasonally, and can bring a springtime touch to living, dining, and bedrooms. Choosing a classic pastel color or pattern can be the inspiration for a centerpiece, another great place to incorporate fresh or silk flowers.

Holidays

Easter imagery can be as subdued as speckled eggs incorporated in Lori’s centerpiece, or as celebratory as Joan’s lively rabbit! Integrate these pieces - rabbits, chicks, eggs, nests, and more - into your existing decor by choosing colors, textures, and patterns that coordinate with your everyday furnishings. Or, let bold pieces stand out in a place with high visibility, like an entryway table.

While you add special holiday pieces now, think forward to summer and the Fourth of July - where are you adding spring touches, and how can they be modified or replaced by something summery, like sunflowers or buntings? Having a plan for future decor changes will take a lot of the stress out of planning the next time!

The Knilans’ design team is looking forward to fresh spring looks almost as much as the warmer weather and longer days! What are some of your favorite spring decorating ideas? Will you be trying anything new in 2020? Let us know in the comments below!
